What Do Alpacas Eat?

Alpacas are grazing herbivores, existing primarily on a diet of grasses. They do not, however, pull the grass up by the roots, so the pastures on which they are placed will renew if the herd is rotated regularly.

They do best on low protein grasses. If fed higher protein forage like alfalfa or clover, alpacas may experience health problems and the quality of their fleece will suffer.
